First, I'll start by saying that this book is book one in the Chaos Walking series and is written by Patrick Ness.
I REALLY enjoyed this book. It took me a little while to read, but that was just because of my classes and such. I thought that it had some very interesting points to it. One example of this is the way some of the words are spelled. It makes it very clear that this town has no sense of education, which I find sad.
The mayor of the town outlawed education not long after the last woman in the town died. That's another thing about Prentisstown, there are no women and Todd (our main character) is the last child and because of this, very ready to become a man. Todd always mentions how he hates being the only child left because none of the men will talk to him, not really. His care takers do, of course. I say care takers because Todd's dad died before they came to New World (not many people live on our earth anymore) and his mother died with the women.
At the beginning of the story, we learn that the Noise is caused by a germ native aliens let loose. The animals caught it first, followed by the men. The women never caught the germ. By the end, we find something completely different out.
When Todd discovers the Silence in the swap, he immediately knows that something isn't right, however, he also knows that it wouldn't be a good idea to mention it to anyone, but a small bit of it creeps into his and his dog's Noise and they are discovered. From there, its all a bunch of running.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book. I will say if you decide to buy it, DEFINITELY get the second one with it. There is a massive cliff hanger ending and you're going to want to have the second one right when you get done reading.
I'm giving the book a 4/5 only because of the cliff hanger ending.
I'm sorry this review isn't the best, I'm new at blogging a book review...
